From Nicole; a ginger start.

Dear Carolyn and colleagues,

It's a great pleasure to be joining you at ACA. This is my first blog entry ever; I expect I'll be your resident Luddite, with all the cachet that attaches to the post.

Born in Patzcuaro, Mexico and raised in Montreal, I now write and edit in the San Francisco Bay Area. My working travels, particularly in West and southern Africa’s marginalized communities, inhabit much of my writing. I hope to work like thunder during the residency to distill these and similar experiences into new poems and essays with honest, palpable impact. I can’t imagine a more galvanizing Master Artist or cohort with whom to focus and grow.

My best to all of you til we meet,
Nicole Parizeau

Che fece...il gran rifiuto
C.P. Cavafy
For some people the day comes
when they have to declare the great Yes
or the great No. It’s clear at once who has the Yes
ready within him; and saying it,

he goes forward in honor and self-assurance.
He who refuses does not repent. Asked again,
he would still say no. Yet that no—the right no—
undermines him all his life.
